Michael Peter Dipre

August 29, 1959 — March 3, 2021

Michael Dipre suffered a heart attack and died a few days later on March 3rd with his family at his bedside.  He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Alfred and Madeline (Speletic) Dipre.  His childhood was spent on Long Island tossing a baseball around, delivering newspapers and working in the vegetable garden.     Mike was the big brother to four siblings:  Christine, Suzanne, Sharon and Richard.   He taught his sisters to fish.  If someone needed help with homework, Mike was the go-to-person. Science always fascinated him.  He excelled in school and received numerous scholastic awards.  The first step of his goal to becoming a doctor was fulfilled when he was accepted at New York University to obtain a Bachelor's degree in biology.  He also attended medical school there.  His internal medicine residency was completed at Boston City Hospital.  Here, he met a "sassy" ICU nurse named Marlena.  She agreed to date him because of his Buick Grand National.  Mike must have made a good impression, because she married him.  October 2021 would have been their 30th wedding anniversary.  He did a Fellowship at the National Institute of Health. The couple had 2 children, Alexandra and William.  Mike was so proud of the young adults that they had become.  He passed his love of the New York Yankees (despite living in Red Sox Nation) and automotive repair onto Billy.  Mike would do anything for his "Alley girl", including flying to Florida to repair her car. The family eventually settled in New Hampshire.  Mike worked as an internist and retired from the Laconia Clinic several years ago.  His Laconia work family enjoyed the way Mike made the workplace fun.  Sometimes he brought his faithful dog Beau with him, who may have stolen a lunch or two.  Many of his patients and staff appreciated his ability to put complex medical concepts into simple terms. Mike loved taking care of his family.  He put his heart and soul into remodeling their 200 year old farmhouse.  He also enjoyed cooking the most delicious (and fattening) meals for friends and family, especially at Thanksgiving.  If you ever heard a Billy Joel song blaring from the radio of a 1994 station wagon, you knew Mike was behind the wheel.  Rescuing golden retrievers was a passion of his.  Recently, Mike and Marlena rescued Emmy, Hudson and Olinia (who lives with friends) from Turkey.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to www.kyrasrescue.com  (remember to select the family and friend option).  The golden Turkey dogs found their way home to Mike and his family through this amazing organization. Mike's  sense of humor and loud laugh will be greatly missed.  A celebration of his life will be held this summer.  Details will be announced at a later date.
