Rochester- Mildred Mae (Smith) Hanson, 100, of 90 Wakefield Street died Saturday, September 04, 2010 at the Gafney Home. Born June 29, 1910 in Biddeford, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Lura M. (Grover) Smith. Mrs. Hanson graduated from the Biddeford High School class of 1927. She married C. Walter Hanson and became a housewife until his death on January 15, 1964. She then went to work in the Rochester City Hall in the Billing Department and retired from there after 21 years at the age of 74. She was a long time member of the First Church Congregational UCC in Rochester, a member of the Rochester Grange, former Good Old Sports and Rochester Senior Citizens. She enjoyed doing crafts and bowling on the Grange Team and was proud of her many bowling trophies. She wrote poetry all of her life. She was an avid collector of poetry books, music boxes, cups, and saucers. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with family she dearly loved. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with an open house party at the Gaffney home and enjoyed it thoroughly. Her family, friends, residents, and staff of the Gaffney home helped her enjoy the day. Members of her family include her children Barbara L. Murray of Durham and Beverly L. Emerson and husband Robert of Pembroke. Her grandchildren Scott W. Murray and wife Kathleen of Dunbarton, Jeffrey J. Cathcart and wife Keri of East Conway, and Julie L. Geary of Pembroke. Her great grandchildren; Jessica Stella, Brianna Geary, Chelsea Cathcart, Mckenzie Cathcart, Ryan Murray, Megan Mullaney. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Virginia E. Hansen In lieu of flowers memorial donations made be made to the Gafney Home, 90 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 12 PM to 2 PM at the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main Street, Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Rochester Cemetery, Franklin Street, Rochester, NH
