Msgt Melvin Hasty

Rochester NH-MSGT Melvin E. Hasty,78, of 268 Salmon Falls Rd died Wednesday August 17, 2011 after a long illness. Born August 13, 1933 in South Berwick, Me he was the son of the late Robert Hasty Sr. and Louise (Lilly) (Hasty) Blackmore. He graduated Berwick Academy in 1951. Melvin lived in Rochester since 1974. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 23 years until his retirement. During his time in the service he served in Japan, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He later went on to work at Tilcon Construction (now Pike Industries) for 23 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1393, American Legion Post 7 and the Marine Corps League of NH. He enjoyed hunting, wildlife, travel and Good Old Sports. His happiest times were spent enjoying his family, following all his grandchildren's activities and going for rides with his sons, grandsons and brother Bob. Members of his family include his wife of 56 years, Elaine (French) Hasty of Rochester NH, his sons David Hasty and wife Carol of Barrington NH, Michael Hasty of Rochester NH, his daughter, Pamela Vachon and her husband Kevin of Rochester NH, his brothers Robert Jr. and James Hasty both of S. Berwick Me, his grandchildren; David, Daniel, Kerrie and Lukas Hasty, Jennifer and Katherine Sprowl. He was predeceased by his parents, step father Bordon Blackmore, and a daughter, Debra Hasty in 1999. There are no calling hours. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, National Office 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to the charity of ones choice. A graveside service will be held Saturday August 27, 2011 at 11am in the Old Cold Spring Cemetery, East Rochester, NH. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St, Rochester NH 03867.
