Norman (Norm) Ellis went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Norm walked into the kitchen, saw the beautiful sunrise through the ice- covered trees and collapsed with a heart attack. Thank you to Rochester Fire Department and EMTs for all their efforts. Norm was born to Martha (Taplin) and Harold Ellis on February 19, 1938 in North Conway and has lived in Rochester for 75 years. He served in the Air Force and the Army National Guard. He worked for an insurance company, was a Rochester Police officer, a draftsman, night security, a carpenter and in later years, his favorite job, building maintenance at Rochester Child Care. Norm and his wife Becky were devoted to one another. To this day people still recall "I remember the Sunday he proposed to her in church." Favorite past times involved cars, going for rides with Becky in his "altered" red convertible he so dearly loved and had fun with. Rebuilding, fixing or restoring antique cars. Drawing, talking about and searching for the next car. Using the term "car" loosely here, sometimes it was just a frame. A glimpse of a curved fender or a tail fin through the cracks of a barn door would lead to an afternoon of conversations and a new friend. He was a talented artist featuring mainly antique cars. He enjoyed talking about and searching for the next great find, even if only a car frame. Being outdoors made Norm happy. He always preferred being outside, from adventures as a child, using a two handled saw, with his Dad, cutting and hauling wood, building precarious bridges (to transport wood), camping, hiking, sleeping outside, campfires, star gazing, building stone walls and hunting (which was really a search for finding the perfect spot for a nap!). Making many happy camping memories with his daughters as they were growing up. There will be an empty seat at the Market Basket café, where Norm so enjoyed coffee and long visits with his friends. In Norm's 80's he picked up a typical hobby for an 80-year-old, archery. Norm is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Becky (Rebecca), daughters Jane (Tom) Weils, Greenwich, NY., Susan (John) Heimann, Rochester, NH., stepchildren Crystal Powers (partner Grant Greeley), Pittsfield, NH., Lance Powers (Partner Jessica Carlson), Rochester, NH., and Rod (Jeanne) Powers, Farmington NH and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Norm was predeceased by his parents and siblings Carl, Raymond and Shirley. His humor, laughter, and love will be greatly missed.
