ROCHESTER - Patricia M. Sylvain, 76, of 181 Chestnut Hill Road, died Wednesday Jan. 6, 2010, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a period of failing health.She was born April 2, 1933, in Rochester, the daughter of the late Edward and Noella (LaLiberte) Hamel. A lifelong resident of Rochester, Pat worked as an licensed practical nurse at Frisbie Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years and after she worked for several Rochester doctors to include Dr. Peter Ejarque and Dr. Richard Nealis. She co-owned Sylvains' Grocery Store with her husband for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and served as past president of the Emblem Club in Rochester Her hobbies included golfing and traveling, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.The widow of Roland "Soapy" Sylvain who died June 2, 2009, whom she had been married to for 55 years, she is survived by their children, Kathleen Akerman, Michael "Soapy" Sylvain and his wife, Julie, Susan Cook and her husband, Timothy, all of Rochester; five grandchildren, Keith Cook, Rochester, Kelly Cook, Plymouth, Mass., Erin Akerman, Revere, Mass., Stacy Akerman and fiance, Joshua Partridge, Rochester, Richard Sevigney III, Farmington; two great grandchildren, Richard Sevigney IV and Zachary Sevigney, both of Farmington; sister, Jeannine Lambert of Gonic; brother-in-law, Robert Lanoix of Gonic; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Theresa Lanoix.Family and friends may visit Friday, Jan. 8, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church, North Main Street, Rochester, with Fr. Paul Gousse as celebrant.
