ROCHESTER ; Pearl Edythe Davis, 86, of Rochester, passed away Thursday Dec. 18, 2008 at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.Mrs. Davis was born in Lebanon, Maine, on April 6, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lura (Ricker) Johnson.She attended schools in West Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon Academy in 1940 and later became a trustee of that building for many years. She worked in many factories and also worked for the Home Makers of Strafford County for many years.Some of her favorite ways to spend the day were hitting the yard sales, going out to lunch and doing crossword puzzles. She was also a serious Scrabble player, frequently beating family and friends. She is the widow of Daniel N. Davis, who died in 1985.She is survived by her two sons, Douglas E. Joy and his wife Cheryl of Union and Donald A. Joy and his wife Gayle of Middleton; her daughters, Diane Elliott of Rochester, Doreen Sceggell and husband David of Rochester and Darlene James and husband Robin of Farmington; her stepsons, Roger Davis of Milton Mills, Bryan Davis and Daniel R. Davis, both of Sanbornville; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, one niece and a nephew. She is predeceased by a son, Ronald Joy, a grandchild, Bruce Joy; Shirley Joy and a brother, L. Wesley Johnson.A graveside service for family and close friends will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Milton Mills Cemetery, Applebee Road, Milton Mills.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County farm Road, Dover NH 03820.Arrangements are under the care of the R.M.
