Peter T. Kogut

July 28, 1948 — January 6, 2021

Col. (Retired) Peter T. Kogut successfully completed his final flight plan to Heaven on Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021. Pete aka Uncle Pete and Shotgun Pete resided at Harmony Homes by the Bay for several months. He previously lived in Farmington, NH and Plattsburgh, NY. He was born to Ted and Ethel Kogut on July 28, 1948. They were his foundation for a successful life. Pete graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1970 as a 2nd LT. in the USAF. His career field was as a Navigator, primarily KC 135's. He loved flying and was recognized throughout his military career in the USAF and NH Air Guard (Pease Air Force Base). He always said, "The sun's always shining, you just have to fly high enough to see it." Pete's interest in new adventures led him to professional writing and photography and racing motorcycles in the US and Canada. He raced in the Vintage Class. He assisted in organizing and publishing The Norton News and area chapters of the Norton Owners Association. Pete is well known for his leadership skills and amazing smile. Racing the Yellow Peril as a part of Team Shoestring was a true joy! In addition to the beloved Norton (NBIKE), favorite motorcycles included the "Duc" (Ducati), Motor Guzzi and Triumph. Doublegun Cases was a passion. Pete was a master woodworker when it came to designing and building custom shotguns and accessories such as custom cleaning kits and cases. One of his quotable quotes is, "A gun is a piece of art that shoots." He is known throughout the country for his expertise. He loved hunting, fishing and a quiet walk in the woods. And there was always at least one dog at his side. Gold was his perfect dog- a beautiful Brittany who was his companion and hunting partner; a true friend. There were many others- most recently Mic and Mav. Pete was a teacher, guide and safety instructor at Green Mountain Shooting Preserve. He was a member of the NRA, Green Mountain Shooting Preserve, Highpoint Kennels and the Farmington Fish and Game Club. He was also a member of the NH Vette Club. Family was very important. He initiated the The Nephews' Shoot when his nephews were in elementary school. It was a perfect opportunity to have three generations of hunters and family together. He taught the nephews family unity, enjoyment and safety. He is survived by his sister Linda Kogut and her husband Paul Giacco, their son Michael and daughter-in-law Cara, grandniece Carol Jean and sister Rose Georgianna and her husband Mitch, their daughter, Dr. Sarah Georgianna, son Peter (Pete's namesake) and wife Casey, grandnephew Daysen and grandniece Bella. There is an extended family of cousins. There are many people to thank- Eric Bruning, Randy Frazier, Eileen Nevins, Esq.;  Sharon and Paul Turner, Ernie Shipman, Buddy and Renaissance Arms Staff, Cornerstone Hospice, Dave Bardzik at Green Mountain Hunting Preserve, Farmington Police Dept. and EMT, Frisbie Memorial Hospital ED Staff and the Geriatric Psychiatry Center Staff,  Harmony Home by the Bay Team, Suzi and the International Norton Owners Association (INOA) Family. We are grateful for the countless prayers and best wishes. Due to current COVID-19 concerns, services will be private for the family. A celebration of Pete's life will take place at a later date. Final interment will be at the NH Veteran's Cemetery. Pete was a regular financial supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.
