Phillip Reynolds

Portland - Phillip M. Reynolds lived a long life and passed in peace surrounded by family on March 1, 2013 in the home of his nephew and niece in South Portland. Phillip was born September 18, 1919, son of Ines and Fred Reynolds along with his twin sister Phyllis Reynolds Ames in Burnham, Maine. Phillip was very close with all 9 of his siblings and is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Beatrice, Jennie, Elizabeth, Phyllis, Esther, his brothers, Millard, and Ivan Reynolds. Phillip is also predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Jessie Bruce Reynolds. Phillip was raised by his family in Pittsfield, Maine and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, where he served in 197th Coast Artillery Antiaircraft in the South West Pacific. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for valor during his time in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. He returned after his service and was honored to meet the woman he would marry Jessie Bruce of Lebanon, Maine. Jessie and Phillip settled and raised their only son, James P. Reynolds on "The Oaks" of Milton Three Pond in Lebanon. Phillip was a member of Local Union 967 for over 50 years. An active member of the Milton Community Church, The American Legion, and the Springvale Masonic Lodge, Phil was known for his famous Bean Hole Beans' which he often donated to these organizations. Phillip loved God, family, and the Red Sox. Phillip and Jessie shared their home and their love with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, boating, and cribbage. Cribbage became a nightly ritual with his family, winning several games in a row just days before his passing. Phillip is survived by his son James "Jim" Reynolds, his brother Evan and Mary Reynolds of Arizona, his sister Winnifred and Clarence Ahlquist of Gorham, Maine, first cousin Alan Hodgkins of Rochester, New Hampshire, and countless nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Ed and Jenny would like to give their deep gratitude to all his caretakers at the Barron Center for his rehabilitation, Home Instead and Hospice which enabled him to be at the home of his choice with family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 3-7pm at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St, Rochester NH 03867. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 1pm at Milton Community Church, 7 Steeple St, Milton, NH 03851. Interment will take place in the spring.
