Phyllis E. Hede, loving mother of four, caring grandmother to nine, and great grandmother to two, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at her residence, St. Ann's Nursing Home in Dover, NH. Phyllis was born on May 10, 1929 in Lynn, Ma., and was the first of two daughters of Willis and Lillian Goodwin. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of New England and worked for 22 years at the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department and Rockingham Superior Court as a Legal Clerk. She was an advocate to those filing petitions and often times had to be reminded she was not an attorney by her boss. Her goal was always to share all her knowledge to assist people through complicated processes, and to help those who couldn't afford an attorney, even if she'd get reprimanded for it. Phyllis also held a real estate license for ten years while working in the court system. Phyllis greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. Her family was truly the light of her life. She would drop anything for her family, at any time, and was an outstandingly selfless woman. Phyllis cherished every moment she spent with her family, and was very grateful to have them in her life. As a child Phyllis loved to be at her family's oceanside camp in Maine, swimming and boating alongside her pet seal and many friends. Phyllis also participated in many hobbies that brought great joy to her life. She was an avid reader, and would often finish a book a day. She was a talented artist, ranging from painting and drawing, creating her own stencils and patterns, gold leafing, wiring a jug she liked into a lamp just because she could, to knitting and sewing outfits, afghans, mittens and alike for her grandkids. Every project she created was made with love and purpose. Phyllis would also spend hours in her garden, making a beautiful masterpiece out of mere flowers and soil, and was always up for trying something new in the kitchen. Phyllis' kids remember the delicious apple pies, homemade gingerbread men, and festive holiday place settings Phyllis created for every occasion. Many of these traditions continue to be carried on through the generations. Phyllis is known to many as the strongest, most independent, and selfless woman they've ever met. After raising her four kids as a single mom, Phyllis has greatly earned this title. Phyllis has also been known to her loved ones to be very strong willed, but this is one thing that makes her even more special and loved. She could persevere through the most difficult of times with ease, and always put her family first. Phyllis is survived by, and will be greatly missed by, her sister Elizabeth Aspinall and husband, Bill, her sons Gregory Hede and wife, Bonnie, Douglas Hede and wife, Jill, and Jeffrey Hede, her daughter Victoria Lantz, her grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Kimberly, Brian, Kyle, Lauren, Danielle, Jessica, and Megan, and her two great grandchildren, Eli and Arianna, along with her nephews Brad Herder and wife, Beth, and Scott Herder, her niece Sue Petke and husband, Steve. Phyllis will also be greatly missed by her lifelong friends; Lee Appel, Joan Livingstone, Beverly Gavette and Ann Marie Weston. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Edgerly Funeral Home in Rochester, NH. A small celebration of life was held on November 4, 2018 for immediate family as requested by Phyllis. Phyllis' family is asking that in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions be donated to the Alzheimer's Association, as Phyllis fought this disease for many years, and would love to see an end to this horrible disease so no family has to endure what Phyllis and her family have.
