Rochester - Phyllis A. Luther, 71, passed away Saturday August 6, 2011 at her home following a five year battle with cancer. Born December 18, 1939 in St. John's Newfoundland the daughter of the late Joseph and Jesse Spurrell. Phyllis was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, planting flower gardens, and traveling. Members of her family include her loving companion of many years Robert Patterson of Rochester, NH; her three children Ronald Luther of Rochester, NH; David Luther of Milton, NH; and Carla Renee Yelle and her husband Bruce of Alton, NH; eight grandchildren Ryan, Courtney, Kelsey, Bethany, Jordan, Jonathan, Cody, and Kyana, two great grandchildren Logan and Chase, her siblings Gerald Spurrell and wife Beverly of Nova Scotia, Robert Spurrell of St. John's, Newfoundland; Joan Hotson and husband Kent of Ontario, Canada; Shirley Freeman and husband Richard of CA; Daphne Bradford and husband John of ME; Barbara Foley and husband Dave of Ontario, Canada; and Trudy Spurrell of St. John's, Newfoundland; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 30 years CMSgt Gilbert R. Luther in 1985. The family would like to thank the Cancer Center at Frisbie Hospital and all the nurses under the direction of Dr. Samnotra, The Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hospital, Sue Jones, Brian Whitehouse, and Wentworth Hospice for the most wonderful care they bestowed on Phyllis while she was undergoing treatment. One would be hard pressed to find a better group of professionals anywhere. A funeral service will be held Wednesday August 10, 2011 at 11AM in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. Burial will follow in the Rochester Cemetery.
