Sandown, NH -- Raymond Leroy Carter of North Road died Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Colonial Poplin Rehab Center. He rests from his labors of nearly 100 years, awaiting the promise of the resurrection to eternal life at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He was born December 12, 1917 in Bangor, ME, the son of the late Dr. Linden J. and Bertha (Ellis) Carter. He graduated from Norwalk (CT) High School and retired from the Kurt H. Volk Printing Company after more than 30 years as a pressman. He was a longtime member of the Community Advent Christian Church in East Norwalk, CT where he sang in the choir, served as a Deacon, and taught the Men's Bible Class. Ray loved reading his Bible, vacationing at Alton Bay, NH, keeping up to date on the latest technological gadgets, and sharing life with his wife of nearly 76 years, whom he adored. A happy man, as evidenced by his customary humming, singing and whistling, he made everyone he met feel special. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Knorr) Carter; his children, Raymond L. Carter, Jr. and Cindy Batson and husband, Willie; his grandchildren, Courtney Pedersen and husband, Erik, and Cammie Gilchrist and husband, David; his great-grandchildren, Alexi Gilchrist, Mollie Pedersen, David Gilchrist, Nate Pedersen, Jonathan Gilchrist, and Scarlett Gilchrist. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Pauline Hall and Mary Clark; and his daughter-in-law, Betsy Carter. The family wants to thank Watson Fields Assisted Living (Dover, NH), Colonial Fox Den Retirement Community (Sandown, NH), and Colonial Poplin Rehab Center (Fremont, NH) for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, October 22, at 3:00 p.m. in the Meetinghouse Village Chapel, 143 Rogers Rd, Kittery, ME. A graveside service will be held in Norwalk, CT at a later date.
