LEBANON, Maine - Richard G. Cox, 78, of 328 Clarkes Settlement Road, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at his home after a long illness.Born April 16, 1931, in Lebanon, Maine, he was the son of the late Leroy and Lillian (Keefe) Cox.Richard proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as an aircraft and engine mechanic, staff sergeant and Korean War veteran. In 1986, he retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a foreman in Shop 328. He was a licensed ham radio operator, master clock and watch repairman. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, having won many trophies in the tournaments he played. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Lebanon North Berwick Baptist Church and the Great Bay Radio Association.Members of his family include his daughters, Sharon O'Meara and husband, Craig, of Merrill, Maine, Sandra Porter and husband, Brian, of Milton, N.H., and Sheila Ingram of Somersworth, N.H.; a brother, Herbert Cox of Milton and Florida and a sister, Patricia, of Indiana; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild and his wife, "Bunny." He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha Cox and a son, Richard D. Cox.Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. with visitation to be held two hours prior in the chapel of R.M.
