NEWFIELD, Maine ; Richard Ralph Gray, 65, of 51 Word Lane, died Feb 3, 2009, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.Born June 19, 1944, in Rochester, N.H., he was the son of the late Robert E. and Eunice (Willey) Gray.Richard fully recovered from Polio at age nine. At the age of 15 he became an Eagle Scout. Richard graduated from Spaulding High School in 1962. He was a lifelong member of the Humane Lodge of Rochester. In the 1970s Richard owned R. Gray Steel Erection in Boston, Mass. In the 1980s he owned Portland Ship Chandlery and became a member of the Portland Propeller Club. In 1989 he moved to Newfield and later opened the Newfield Pub. Most recently Richard owned Commercial Pool and Spa of Newfield. Richard loved his guitar, his garden and all outdoor sports. Members of is family include his daughter, Mary-Beth (Gray) Mills of South Portland; grandchildren, Eric H. and Laura E. Mills, both of South Portland; great aunt, Arlene (Willey) Montgomery of California; and two cousins, Constance (Willey) Boles of Rochester, N.H., and Shari (Montgomery) Rosaane of San Lorenzo, Calif.There are no calling hours.Burial will take place in the New Cold Springs Cemetery, East Rochester, N.H., in the spring.In lieu of flowers memorial donations maybe made to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074 or online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org.Arrangements are under the direction of the R.
