ROCHESTER - Richard L. MacDonald, 81, of 47 Pray St., died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.He was born Nov. 18, 1928, in Hollis, Maine, son of the late Peter and Alfreda (Ingalls) MacDonald. Richard was a lifelong resident of Rochester, having attended Spaulding High School and being a longtime member of True Memorial Baptist Church. He proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Army. He worked as a computer programmer for Clarostat Company in Dover for 43 years. His hobbies included woodworking, golf, bowling and roller-skating with his wife, Shirley. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of his grandchildren.Members of his family include his wife of 55 years, Shirley (Glidden) MacDonald of Rochester; sons, Scott and wife, Tina MacDonald of Harwich, Mass., Brett and Crystalyn MacDonald of Rochester, Gary MacDonald of Milton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ted and wife, Judi MacDonald of Merritt Island, Fla.; sister-in-law, Donna Jerome of Barrington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sheryl Marie Sprague, granddaughter, Allison Mae Sprague, and his brother, James MacDonald, all of Rochester.Family and friends may visit Friday, Dec. 18, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.The funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Rick Lamirande, officiating.
