Rochester - Rita (Haney) Robbins, 94, passed away on May 27, 2015 at Colonial Hill of Rochester. Born July 19, 1920 in Rochester, NH she was the daughter of the late Fred W. and Tressie (Jenness) Ellis. She lived most of her life in Rochester and East Rochester, and married Donald Haney, Sr in 1937, and they raised three sons, Donald, Jr., David, and Paul. Donald, Sr. died in 1964 at the age of 48. She later married Sumner (Red) Robbins and he predeceased her in 1998. In early years Rita worked at Dix-Wood Heel, and later at Great Falls Manufacturing from which she retired. Rita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 60, Clarence L. Perkins Post, Farmington, NH and many times manned the Bake Sale table at the ham and bean suppers. She was an avid bowler, and together with her husband, Red, bowled in the Couples League and Seniors League at the Bowl-A-Way Lanes in Rochester. After Red's passing she continued bowling at Dover Bowl Senior League. Prior to her health decline she regularly attended Good Ole Sports in Rochester at Spaulding High School where she could be seen dancing away each Tuesday night. She had a special love for her camp in Bean Mountain Rd. in Ossipee, NH, where she and her late husband Red spent many summer weekends. She was a regular at the K of C Monday Bingo, and attended a month before her passing. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rochester, and enjoyed services on a regular basis until her move to Middleton in November of 2009 where she resided with her son, David Haney, Sr until her passing. Survivors include her son David W. Haney, Sr. sisters Florence Fickett, Norma Jane Cliche, and Eleanor Ellis, brothers Fred Ellis, Jr. and Cecil Ellis, grandchildren David Haney, Jr, Cheri Haney, Paul Haney, Jr, Kim Haney, Steven Haney, Glen Haney, Keith and Mary Haney, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sons Donald Haney, Jr., and Paul Haney, her sisters Ruth Ellis, Carrie Walker, Lillian Lessard, and Gertrude Wilson, and brother James Ellis. Family and friends may visit Tuesday June 2, from 6-7 PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will follow at 7 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place Wednesday June 3, at 11 AM in the Rochester Cemetery.
