ROCHESTER - Robert E. Dame, 91, of 11 Linden St., died Aug. 10, 2009, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.He was the son of Ernest J. Dame and Inez (Watson) Dame.In 1937, he graduated from Rochester High School. S/Sgt. Robert Dame was an aerial gunner on a B25 bomber during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps, he started to work in the Rochester A & P, working in the Springvale, Sanford, South Berwick, Dover, and Portsmouth stores. After 31 years of service, he retired from North Berwick A & P, where he was the manager. He was a member of Humane Lodge of Masons, also the Palestine Commandry Knight Templars, and Bektash Temple A. A. O.N.M.S. He is a life member of the Appalachian Mountain Club; during which time he climbed, on foot, the 4,000-foot mountains of New Hampshire and New England. He was also a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 7 in Rochester.He had lived all of his life in Rochester, dying on the same street he was raised on. He was born in the doctor's office on the square in Rochester. He was the last member of a family of seven.There will be no calling hours.A graveside ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Rochester Cemetery, Franklin Street, Rochester.Arrangements are under the care of the R.
