Rochester NH- Robert S. "Bob" Hanson, 76, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 2, 2013 at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, NH. He was born Oct. 16, 1936 in Rochester the son of the late Philip and Ruth (Horne) Hanson. Bob was a lifelong resident of Rochester and graduated from Spaulding High School, Class of 1954 , then attended Boston University. He worked for his Dad at the Gulf Station on the corner of Wakefield and Union Streets in the 1950's and later worked for the Rochester Police Dept. from 1959- 1963. Bob worked at Arthurs Market as meat cutter for 17 years and retired from Moore Business Forms because of his illness. Bob fought a hard battle for 15 years to conquer his cancer and was an inspiration to many people for his upbeat attitude and courage. Bob enjoyed golfing and was a gun enthusiast. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Catherine M. (Carter) Hanson; his three children, Mark Hanson and wife Lindy of Rochester ; Steven Hanson and his fiancé Mary Jo Peterson of Somersworth; and daughter, Mary Beth Hertel and husband Fred of Tuftonboro, NH; six grandchildren, Kerianne Hanson of South Korea, Sgt. Casey Hanson who is serving in Afghanistan, Meghan Hanson of Rochester, Christie Hanson of Enfield, ME., and twins, Carter and Cooper of Rochester, NH Family and friends may visit Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester NH. The funeral service will be held Monday at 1:30 PM in the chapel of the funeral home with Brad Trafton, cousin to Bob, officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Brock Street, Rochester at a later date.
