Rochester- Robert D. Horne, 87, a life long resident of Rochester died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, MA. Born February 19, 1923 in Springfield, MA. He was the son of the late Charles W. and Mary A. Horne. Mr. Horne has lived in Rochester all of his life. He graduated from Spaulding High School, class of 1942. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served during WW II. He attended the Wentworth Institute in Dover and received a certificate in cabinet making. He owned and operated Miller's Awning Shop in Rochester for many years. Robert is a long time member of True Memorial Baptist Church and served as one of the church's Deacons. He enjoyed working with wood and most of all, his family. Members of his family include his son, Robert W. Horne and wife Connie of Springfield, MA. His grandchildren; Mark Horne and wife Emily of Delaware, Jonathan Horne and wife Sarah of New York, and Joshua Horne, a Marine, serving at Camp Lejeune, NC. His two great grandsons; Owen and Samuel. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law; Lloyd Almond and his wife Paula of Farmington, N.H., and John Almond and his wife Dory of Wyoming along with a niece a nephew. He was preceded in death by his "Beloved" Bernice (Almond) Horne, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, along with his two brothers Joseph and C. Edward, and his sister Betty. An hour of viewing will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM, Monday, May 24, 2010 at the True Memorial Baptist Church, 21 Ten Rod Road, Rochester, NH 03867 A funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the True Memorial Baptist Church, 21 Ten Rod Road, Rochester, NH 03867.
