Dover, NH- Russell Carl Huntress, 70, died Saturday Oct. 28, 2017 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 19, 1947 in Biddeford, ME the son of the late Carleton and Margaret Alice (Kinney) Huntress. Russell attended Old Orchard Beach High School and graduated from Spaulding High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972 as a corpsman in Vietnam. Russ retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles (in ink), spending time at camp on Little Ossipee Lake, going to the NH Highland Games and playing practical jokes (especially on his sister). He loved his family and friends, his golden retriever, Riley Buffett Huntress and bacon. Not long ago he told a friend "I've had a good life". He was always available to give unconditional help and support to anyone who needed it. He was a special person-truly one of "the good guys". Members of his family include his wife of 37 years, Kate (Peyser) Huntress; sister, Clarice Huntress, niece, Kimberly Blaney and spouse, Anne Cardale; nephew, Paul Blaney; brothers-in-law, Richard Blaney and Paul F. Riley; sister-in-law, Barbara P. Riley, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit Friday Nov.3, 2017 from 2-5 PM at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. Burial will be at a later date in the Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, NH. His family wishes to send special thanks to the many friends who did so much to help, and to the staff of Seacoast Cancer Center for their compassionate care.
