ROCHESTER - Ruth L. Clough, 78, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 after a long fight with multiple myeloma.Ruth was born in Amherst, Mass., on June 27, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Cecilia Greene. She is survived by her younger sister, Lucille Scarborough. Educated in the Amherst school system, Ruth graduated from Amherst High School in 1950, and then attended business school in Springfield, Mass. In 1952, she joined the Navy, training and working as a dental technician. A year later, she met and married Leland U. Clough, a test pilot in the Air Force.Raising four children on military bases around the world, the family moved to Rochester in the mid 1960s, where she worked in the Rochester school system and at the Rochester Public Library for many years. She loved to read, knit, sew, garden and spend time with her many good friends, occasionally indulging in a game of croquet with her children and grandchildren.She is also survived by her four children, Marie Oedel, Tom Clough, Jon Clough and Chris Kfoury, and six grandchildren, Helen Aure, Becky Clough, Bill Oedel, Natalie Kfoury, Rick Kfoury and Sam Kfoury.She was predeceased by her husband, Leland U. Clough.Ruth's family wants to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Seacoast Cancer Group and to Dr. Henry Sonneborn for the excellent care given to their mother over many years. They also want to thank the wonderful people at the Seacoast Hospice program who helped her remain in her own home these past few months.Family and friends may visit with her family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the R. M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main Street, Rochester.
