Shirley Ann (Peabody) Daggett

October 20, 1929 — December 27, 2025

Berwick, ME

Shirley Ann (Peabody) Daggett, passed away peacefully at home on December 27th at the age of 96 surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born on October 20th, 1929, in Peterborough, NH, the first of three daughters born to Frederick W and Mildred (Royce) Peabody.

She graduated from Portsmouth High School in the late 40’s and entered the workforce. She worked dispatch and drove taxi cabs in the Dover/Portsmouth area for a time. She went on to work for Toys R’ Us for over 25 years, even occasionally dressing up as the mascot himself, Geoffrey the Giraffe.

Throughout her life Shirley found joy in spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed ballroom and line dancing and playing card games and Bingo. She was a member of a candlepin bowling team and a member of The Red Hat Society. She enjoyed camping and traveling, having even had the opportunity to go to The Grand Ole Opry for country fest one year.

She took great care with her appearance, her hair was always fresh, and she was coordinated from head to toe, down to her signature costume jewelry, always showing up for the big and small events for those she loved. Often accompanied by one of her beloved dachshunds who could be found either curled up in her lap, or under her feet.

As her family gathered at her 96th birthday just 2 months ago she was asked if she enjoyed her meal, her response was poetic, “I had what I had, and it was enough.”

She will be greatly missed and wonderfully remembered as we move along in life without her by our sides.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Linda) Harmon of Sanford, ME, Kathie (Edward) Richardson of Berwick, ME, Kimberly (Skip) Smith of Berwick, ME, William (Candace) Daggett of Sanford, ME, daughter in law Karen Daggett of Rochester, NH, and her youngest sister Joan Moffett of Bow, NH.

She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frederick W Daggett, Her beloved sister, Barbara Rivais, 4 sons, Kenneth Downs, Dale Daggett, Jeremy Daggett and Peter Daggett, 3 of her treasured grandsons, Erik Daggett, Christopher Harmon, and Eric Delano and one great granddaughter.

Services will be held at Edgerly Funeral Home in Rochester NH on January 17th. Visiting hours from 12-2pm followed by a service at 2pm.
