Stephen Donald Mitchell

Stephen (Steve) D. Mitchell, of East Wakefield, NH, passed away on November 25th, 2024. Born on May 20th, 1964, Steve was the beloved son of the late Donald and Joanne (Krupski) Mitchell, Jr. He leaves behind his fiancé and partner of 11 years, Sherri (Paine) Ethier, sons Derek Mitchell of Ludlow, VT and Jesse Mitchell of Weymouth, MA, sister Jennifer (Mitchell) Tuthill of Somersworth, NH, bonus children Alexa and husband Matt Symonds, of Bridgewater, NH, Kyle DeCristofaro, of Nashua, NH, Jon Ethier and wife Christine of Billerica, MA, Erika Fischer of Allenstown, NH, and bonus grand-children Westley and Walker Symonds, Kaylee and Lucas Ethier, and Kenley Page. Steve also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Aaron Katz, Michelle Katz-Veilleux, Brooke Tuthill, Chloe Tuthill, Oliver and Genevieve Veilleux, his Aunt Connie, many cousins and too many close and life-long friends to list.
Steve grew up in Wolfeboro, NH and was a 1982 graduate of Kingswood Regional High School. A culinary protégé in high school, he attended culinary school in Berlin, NH. He was a member of The Brew Crew of ’82, and an exceptional athlete, with records in baseball and skiing. He was the #1 ski jumper in the State of NH and competed in the Junior Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. He loved adventure and worked cooking at Heavenly Valley ski area in Lake Tahoe, CA, and as a white-water rafting tour guide on the Colorado River. He was a remarkable chef and is best known all over the lakes region, for his culinary skills. He had a following and most recently was the Executive Chef at Stonehurst Manor, in North Conway, NH.
He enjoyed racquetball, tennis, ping-pong and golf, especially his annual golf trips to Jamestown, RI, with his best buds. He loved a wide variety of music and shared his love of it attending many concerts with his boys. Steve was a Deadhead and would travel across the country for shows, tallying up 99, before Jerry died, he would joke.
He was affectionately known as Stevie, Stevie Mitch, Scrod-dad and Big Sexy. He loved people, laughter and mischief and was so much fun to be around. His friends and family were sacred, especially Derek and Jesse. He was loved and will be missed terribly. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, in Wolfeboro, NH, at O’Bistro at the Inn on Main, from 12-4.
