Strafford, NH - Stephen T. O'Grady died peacefully at home on Nov. 16, 2019, at age 104. Steve was born and raised in New Bedford, MA. Upon retirement from the New Bedford School Department, he moved to the family farm in Strafford. In 2017 he became Strafford's oldest citizen and was awarded the Boston Post Cane. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes/St. Joseph's Parish. Steve is an Army Veteran of World War II. During his time as a soldier, he performed a variety of duties. As a Military Policeman he helped prevent union strikers from shutting down the Springfield, Mass. Arms factory. As a Corporal he assisted Maine farmers with the potato harvest, and as a Medic he awaited the invasion of Japan at a post in the Philippines. In retirement at the farm, Steve handled the many chores required-stacking hay, mucking stalls, fixing equipment, etc. His mind and body remained strong to the end. God Bless Stephen O'Grady. He was preceded in death by his sister Rita Kerivan, his brother Francis O'Grady, and niece Sheila Hamilton. Steve will be sorely missed by members of his family including four nephews, William S. Kerivan, James F. and wife Lucinda Kerivan, Michael J. and wife Melissa Kerivan, all of Strafford, NH, and Richard G. Kerivan of North Reading, MA, and many great nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 from 10-11:30 AM at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1PM at Our Lady of Lourdes, 20 River Street, Pittsfield, NH with Fr. John MacKenzie as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Norris Road, Pittsfield, NH.
