Thomas F. Carroll

Thomas F. Carroll, 87, surrounded by his family, died of cancer, March 10th, 2012. He was born May 24, 1924 in Manchester, NH, son of Thomas F. and Mary (Regan) Carroll. During the Second World War he served in the U. S. Marine Corps, became a sergeant and was stationed in the Marshall Islands. He was discharged in 1946 and then married in 1947 to his late wife, Irene M. (Duguay) Carroll, who died in 1978. He received a B.S. in accounting from Boston University in 1949. Tom was a Special Agent with the U.S. Treasury Department until his retirement in 1977. In 1982 he married his second wife, the late Rosemarie (Sheehan) Carroll who died in 2011. He was an avid sailor and former member of the Portsmouth Yacht club, and a member of the Elks Club. His easy going nature and the quick wit he possessed, even in his final days, will be missed. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Pauline, and his daughter, Susan, and his sons, Kevin and James. He leaves a sister, Nancy Lawrence of Binghamton, NY, and six children; Thomas F. Carroll Jr. and wife, Linda, of Manchester, NH, Pamela C. House and her husband, Richard, of Bedford, NH, Peter D. Carroll and his wife, Susan, of Lebec, CA, Richard J. Carroll and his wife, Lois, of Hampton, NH, Mary DeFreze and her husband, Frank, of Hampton, NH, and Marc J. Carroll of Portsmouth, NH. He also leaves six step-children; Paula Miller and her husband, Herb, of Swanzey, NH, Cathi Chaddock and her husband, Arty, of Atlanta, GA, Marjie Hinton and her husband, Rob, of Las Cruces, NM, Peter Sheehan and his wife, Lisa, of Greenland, NH, Maura Sheehan of Eliot, ME, and Michael Sheehan of Phoenix, AZ. In addition, he leaves eleven grand children, five step-grand children, nine great grand children, and seventeen nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Wentworth Home Care and Hospice of 121 Broadway, Suite 117, Dover, NH, 03820. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday,March 17, 2012 at 11:00am in the Trinity Anglican Church, Rochester Hill Road, Rochester, NH with Fr. Owen Williams officiating. Private burial services will be in NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester NH.
