EAST ROCHESTER - Thomas "Grumpa" Kean, 58, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital following a brave fight against cancer.Born Aug. 23, 1950, in Milton Mills, he was the son of the late William and Mamie (Dunklee) Kean.Mr. Kean served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Collins and Aikman for 38 years and most recently Trelleborg which the Kean family would like to express their gratitude for the compassion and understanding during Tom's illness. Tom enjoyed woodworking, but most of all spending time and making things for his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Melissa (Harriman) Kean of East Rochester; his children, David Kean of East Rochester, Jeremy Kean and his fiance, Jaimie Laney of New Durham, and Samantha Peplinski and her husband, Scott, of Rochester; his three grandchildren, Hayden and Hunter Peplinski and Cameron Kean; his siblings, George, Walter, and Rodney Kean, all of Rochester, Gerald Kean of Farmington, George Bonney of Rochester, Viola Wolfinger of Lebanon, Maine, Winnie Tarbox of Saco, Maine, Leona Hatford of Rochester, and Patty Bradt of Florida; several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his stepfather, George Bonney and a brother, Lenny Kean.Family and friends may visit Tuesday, July 21, 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S.
