Toshiko Horton

Rochester, NH- Toshiko (Tosh) Horton passed away on April 12, 2018 at the age of 81 after a long illness.  She died peacefully at her son and daughter in laws' home in Gonic, NH. Tosh was born October 15, 1936 in Japan.  She was the daughter of Kei and Tobio Hayashida.  She was pre-deceased by her husband Roger Lawrence Horton, three brothers and one sister. Roger and Tosh met in Okinawa, Japan where he was stationed for the US Marine Corps.  They soon married and moved to the United States where they made their life in Somersworth, NH.  They were married for 54 years. Tosh worked many years of her life in the shoe factories in Somersworth.  She then worked at Janco and J-Pac Corporation.  In the early years she obtained her American Citizenship of which we were very proud. She retired at the age of 75. Toshiko's life was centered by her family.  She is survived by one daughter, Sarah and husband Mark Steuerwald of Rochester, NH, three sons, Roger and Keli Horton of Mission Viejo, CA; Robert and Jennifer Horton of Gonic, NH and Richard and Sarah Horton of Winchester, NH.  She is also survived by six grandchildren Kristen, Ryan, Megan, Anne, RJ and Noah.  She also took great joy in her two great grandchildren Aiden and Olivia.  Her family was the most important thing in her life. She spent many weekends playing with her grandchildren taking them miniature golfing, playing in the backyard and shopping for whatever they wanted.   She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Our family would like to thank the following agencies that made it possible for her to remain at home until her death:  Cornerstone VNA and The Homemakers Healthcare.   We greatly appreciate the loving care given to her by Nancy, Ashleigh and Ramone. She would never be able to remain at home without their compassionate care and loving kindness.  We especially thank Pastor Mark Rideout from First Parish Church in Somersworth, Dr. Salud Mendoza and Dr. Alexander Asch for always being there for our parents and our entire family. There are no calling hours or services.
