ROCHESTER Verna M. Foss, 87, of 5 Apple Orchard Road, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at Colonial Hill of Rochester after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Strafford, the daughter of the late Earlon and Hattie (Berry) Foss. She was a graduate of Austin Cate Academy and worked at Studley's Flower Gardens, and Richs Dept. Store and eventually retired from Hartford Insurance Company and Grange Mutual as a receptionist. Mrs. Foss was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Rochester and a longtime member of Order of Eastern Star. She was a 75-year member of Crown Point Grange, Eastern Pomona Grange and the National Grange. She was a Girl Scout and 4-H Leader and volunteered as a driver for the cancer society. Her hobbies included reading, painting cooking and using the talking books. The widow of the late Laurence J. Foss who died in 1983. She was predeceased by great grandson, Nicholas and brothers, Ken, Everett and Cecil Foss. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen A. Foss, Baldwinsville, N.Y.; sons, Earlon and wife Deborah Foss, Loudon; Glen L. Foss and Christina H. Foss, both of Strafford; grandchildren, Greg, Jeff, Tim, Chris, Zach; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kylie, Emma, KC. Family and friends may visit Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester N.H. The funeral service will follow immediately at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral with the Rev. Jeff Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Foss Family Cemetery, Second Crown Point Road, Rochester N.H.
