Wallace "Wally" N. Hubbard

December 11, 1945 — October 16, 2021

Dr. Wallace N. Hubbard, 75, beloved pediatrician of Rochester, NH, passed away peacefully at home on October 16th, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Wally was born in Revere, MA to Wallace and Eleanor Hubbard. He graduated from Boston College in 1967 and that same year, married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Mirisola.  Wally studied medicine at the University of Vermont Medical School and completed his pediatric residency in Washington, D.C.  Wally enlisted in the US Army from 1974-1976 and was stationed in Fort Polk, LA where he worked as a physician and achieved the rank of Major. In 1976, Wally and Nancy moved to Rochester, NH where he set up a pediatric practice with Dr. James DeJohn and Dr. Robert Mackey.  He devoted himself to generations of families through his work as a pediatrician and children's advocate. Wally truly loved his job and cared deeply about the wellness of the children in his practice. For 35 years, his quick wit and sense of humor put patients at ease while his calming presence and skillful care provided relief for anxious parents. Wally had a playful spirit, some might say he was a big kid at heart. Children were drawn to him like a pied piper and he was always in the middle of their games and activities. He was also a selfless man, prioritizing family and others ahead of himself. He was amazingly generous with his time and resources, always willing to pitch in and lend a hand. He volunteered and served on the board at the SHARE Fund, a local organization that provides food, shelter and clothing to those in need. Wally also enjoyed volunteering with the Appalachian Mountain Club to repair hiking trails in various National Parks throughout the country. Wally loved the outdoors. His hobbies included: hiking, golfing, gardening (despite a 20-year feud with the local woodchuck), bicycling (he completed 100-mile rides in every state east of the Mississippi River!), traveling with his wife Nancy, both nationally and abroad, and spending time with family and friends at their camp on Lake Ivanhoe. And like a true New Englander, he was a big fan of all NE sports teams and devout NY Yankee hater. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy, his two sons, Christopher and Matthew (wife Kelly) and his daughter, Jessie (husband Robert) as well as six granddaughters, who were the light of his life: Josie, Jenna, Hayden, Olivia, Ellie and Lucy.  He additionally leaves behind his sister Kathleen McLeod and brother Kenneth Hubbard as well as countless life-long friends and extended family members. Following Wally's wishes, there will be no formal service, but a Celebration of Life will be held in early 2022.  In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the SHARE Fund in Wally's honor.   https://www.sharefund.org/donate-form
