William "Bill" Stanley

William (Bill) Stanley, beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend passed away surrounded by his family on March 10th, 2024 at the age of 62. He leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. Born on October 20th, 1961, in Savannah, GA, Bill grew up in a loving home with his parents, Carl and Betty Ann (Miller) Stanley. Bill fell in love with his wife and best friend, Debra, at a young age. Together they built a legacy that continues on with their beautiful family: son Eric Stanley and wife Clara, daughter Elizabeth (Stanley) Raynor and husband Andrew, and daughter Alison (Stanley) Newell and husband Timothy. His greatest treasures were his grandchildren: Ben, AJ, and Anna Stanley, Ayla and Kalea Raynor, and Leland and Lenora Newell. He was deeply loved by his extended family, in particular his in-laws Roland and Muriel Baxter and Robert and Joanne Brooks. In reflecting upon his life, Bill enjoyed traveling and he planned unforgettable vacations.  Some of his favorite places were York Beach, Disney, and Aruba. He will be remembered as an avid New England sports fan, his favorite being the Boston Celtics, with the highlight of attending the 2008 NBA Championship. He was a cornerstone of all family gatherings and was known for his tremendous spreads and extraordinary menus. When he wasn't watching sports or cooking for his loved ones, he could be found riding his John Deere, working in the yard with Debbie, or enjoying the pool. Bill's 39-year career at Hannaford Supermarkets was distinguished by his strong work ethic and dedication to excellence. Some of his closest friends were from his Hannaford family. Bill was also very much involved in the community through Hannaford, donating and volunteering for several local organizations, most notably the annual Caring and Sharing Drive in Dover. Visitation will be held at R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home in Rochester on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SHARE Fund, one of Bill's favorite local charities.
