Winifred Webster (nee Bamford) Cameron We sadly announce the passing of Winifred Webster Cameron in Rochester, NH at the age of ninety-nine. She was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on Columbus Day, October 12th, 1910, to Nova Scotians John A. and Jane M. (Webster) Bamford. Winifred resided in Quincy, MA until 1917, when her mother became ill during the influenza epidemic. Her mother was slow to recover from the illness so her father moved the family to Nova Scotia to reside with relatives. Winifred's mother passed away while she was in her early teens, and she stayed for some time with her best friend, Eva Chisholm (later Langley), and her family. Her father made arrangements for her to move to Boston when she was nineteen. She stayed with and worked for a short time for her uncle, but she soon found a position with the bakeshop chain, Dorothy Muriel, which later became Brigham's and Star Markets. During her first years in Boston, she met her husband, John Hugh Cameron, who was also from Nova Scotia. They married in 1938 and resided in Boston and Waltham until 1962. Winifred and Hugh had no children of their own, but she considered her best friend Eva's children as her family, and loved them all dearly. Each summer, she and Hugh would travel back to Nova Scotia to visit her Dad and to stay with the Langley family. Winifred had many friends and was an honoured member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also continued her career climb with Brigham's and Star Markets, and, in 1973, she retired as an area supervisor with the diamond pin standing. She then moved to Chestnut Hill Park in Rochester, NH; in 1996 she moved to Langdon Place in Dover, NH; and in 2000, she moved to the Gafney Home in Rochester, NH, which has been her home for the past ten years. Special thanks are extended to the staff and administrator of the Gafney Home for providing her with a loving and caring environment. She was predeceased by her husband, John Hugh Cameron, in 1962. She will be greatly missed by her special family: Mary Dianne Polley and family of Nova Scotia, Allen Langley and family of Nova Scotia, and Corrine Langley Mayfield and family of Beverly, MA and Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gafney Home in Rochester, NH. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, May 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home in Rochester, NH. Interment will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.
